"The goal is to prepare for professional training," says the youth academy director after the final.

Flamengo failed to win the state youth championship this Saturday (28.11), in São Januário. The team played a hard-fought game against Vasco, but lost 1-0. Despite the negative result, the director of the youth team, Carlos Noval, praised the work done during the season and recalled that the main objective of the categories is to develop players for the professional stage.

"The word that comes to mind is pride. I'm very proud of these youth players, who had a great season. They all performed exactly as Flamengo expects of them. Our style of play will always be the same: possession, keeping the ball on the ground, and proposing the game. Unfortunately, in football, the one who proposes the game doesn't always win. Vasco was more efficient in their finishing, and we missed a lot of chances early in the game," Noval analyzed.

After conceding the goal, Flamengo pushed forward and nearly equalized with a free kick from Patrick, but the ball hit the post. Despite pushing harder, the team didn't leave the field with the victory. Flamengo ends the competition as the Taça Rio champion and with the competition's second-highest scorer: Antônio Carlos, with 19 goals. "Mais Querido" is the most successful state championship winner in the category, with 15 titles. Noval also noted that the team will have players moving up a category after the competition.

"I'm very proud of the coaching staff and these kids, and I think the year was very good. We reached every semifinal we played in. The goal is to prepare and develop the players for the professional stage. We're going to move several players on to the next stage and prepare for the São Paulo Junior Cup," he revealed.
