My unforgettable Flamengo x Vasco

On the eve of another classic in the Campeonato Carioca juniors, Douglas Baggio remembers his favorite goal against the Cruzmaltino rival

June 16, 2012. On that date, Flamengo and Vasco faced off in the Rio de Janeiro Youth Championship. Late in the game, striker Douglas Baggio scored a stunning bicycle kick, sealing a 4-2 victory for the Flamengo team. On the eve of the Clássico dos Milhões in the U-20 State Championship, Baggio can't help but remember that great match.

"It's a game that's memorable for me. I remember the goal. It was the most beautiful I've ever scored for Flamengo. Because it was in a derby, it was even more special. It's the only bicycle kick goal I've scored in my short career. It has a very special flavor," said Douglas Baggio.

That June 2012 match was played in the city of Itaguaí, where Vasco has its youth training center. After the bicycle kick, every time Douglas Baggio returns to the rival's field, he remembers and is reminded of that magical moment.

"Yes, I remember. Even more so when I play there in Itaguaí. The goal comes to mind. I remember the moment and how I did the bicycle kick. When I go there, the crowd always asks me about that goal and jokes with me," said the striker.

Today, Douglas Baggio is no longer a Juvenil and is 19 years old. His next match against Flamengo and Vasco will be again in Itaguaí, but it will be valid for the Campeonato Carioca sub-20. The classic will take place at 16:30 pm next Saturday (15.02).

"A classic is a classic. No matter the situation of the two teams, it's always a very tight and difficult game, especially since it's away from home. We need the three points because we're in fourth place and the teams behind us have almost the same number of points as Flamengo. The standings are very tight. We're going for the win," said Douglas Baggio.
