From finishing 37th in São Paulo straight to finishing 12th in Porto Alegre, Flamengo's U-20 team maintained its defensive consistency and earned another important point playing away from home in the Brazilian Championship. This time playing against Grêmio in Eldorado do Sul (Porto Alegre) after facing São Paulo on Thursday, the "Garotos do Ninho" were far superior on the field and created the best scoring opportunities of the match. However, they saw opposing goalkeeper Adriel become the star of the show, saving the Gauchos on several occasions and preventing the red-and-black victory. In the next round, "Mais Querido" hosts Athlético PR in Gávea. Before that, however, Mengão travels to Arapiraca (AL), where they debut in the Copa do Brasil against Jaciobá next Thursday (08).

 

The game

 

Flamengo started better and went in search of their first goal since the start of the match. Just four minutes in, Rhyan took a shot from the edge of the box, but goalkeeper Adriel made the save. Shortly after, in the sixth minute, it was Lázaro's turn to strike powerfully. Adriel made a great save, palming the ball out for a corner. The Garotos do Ninho's superiority in the first half was significant. In the 29th minute, Guilherme Bala made a great individual play and passed the ball to Rhyan Paradela, well-positioned at the penalty spot. But the shot went over the Grêmio goal.

 

Grêmio had a good chance early in the second half, in the fourth minute, with a Bitello shot that went over João Fernando's goal. But the best scoring opportunities of the game continued to fall to Grêmio. In the 12th minute, Lázaro received the ball at the edge of the box, made his marker dance, and fired a left-footed shot to the right of goalkeeper Adriel. In the 14th minute, Weverton, who had just come on for Guilherme Bala, fired a cross-shot. Adriel palmed it away, and the defense cleared the danger before Rhyan Paradela finished into the net.

 

The pressure was intense, and the Grêmio goalkeeper was the name of the game. In the 26th minute, Weverton struck a beautiful shot from the edge of the box. Adriel found the back of the net and saved the team from Rio Grande do Sul once again. Mengão still came close to scoring through Lázaro and Weverton, but Grêmio held on and maintained the 0-0 scoreline until the final whistle.
