In the Brazilian Under-17 Championship, Mengão beat Botafogo 2-0 and continues with a 100% success rate

In the fifth round of the Brasileirão U-17, Flamengo defeated Botafogo 2-0 on Monday afternoon (7), in Gávea. The goals for the Rubro-Negro were scored by Petterson and Matheus França, from a penalty. With the victory, Mengão took the lead in Group A with 15 points and remains with a 100% record in the championship. If they win the next game, the Garotos do Ninho will already guarantee early qualification for the quarterfinals.
The game
Flamengo started the match pressing Botafogo and nearly opened the scoring in the ninth minute. Matheus Gonçalves received the ball inside the box and hit the post with a powerful shot. In the 14th minute, Mengão opened the scoring! Petterson took a shot from outside the box, and the ball went into the right corner of the goalkeeper's net: 1-0.
Even though they were ahead, Flamengo maintained their momentum and pushed hard to extend their lead in the first half. "Mais Querido" (The Most Beloved) threatened, especially on the wings, and gave Flamengo's defense a hard time. In the 40th minute, Victor Hugo found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper, who managed to prevent Flamengo's second goal. Flamengo went into halftime ahead.
In the second half, Rubro-Negro continued to dominate possession and exchange passes in the attacking half. In the 18th minute, after a beautiful pass, Mateusão controlled the ball inside the box, cut past the defense, and shot straight at the goalkeeper. In the 25th minute, Victor Hugo received the ball in the box and shot across goal, but the goalkeeper made a good save.
Next, Petterson made a good individual play inside the box and won the penalty. Matheus França stepped up to take the penalty and scored Mengão's second: 2-0. With complete dominance throughout the match, Flamengo left the field with their fifth victory in the competition.

Mais Querido returns to the field next Saturday (12) to face América-MG, at 15 pm, in Gávea, for the sixth round of the Brazilian Under-17.
