Flamengo's U-20 team finished the first round of the second phase of the Otávio Pinto Guimarães Tournament (OPG) leading Group E. In three games, they recorded two wins, against Bangu and Serra Macaense, and a draw against América. With seven points, the "Mais Querido" team holds a two-point lead over the group's runner-up. Besides being undefeated in the current phase of the competition, coach Cleber dos Santos' team also boasts the championship's top scorer: Eduardo, with nine goals.
"We managed to achieve some of the goals we set, such as finishing the first half of the season at the top of the standings undefeated. Now, for the second half, we aim to score the same number of points as we have already. That's the goal for the players, as we'll secure a spot in the final if we score another seven points," said the red-and-black coach.
In the second phase of the OPG Tournament, the eight remaining clubs are divided into two groups (E and F). The two finalists will be the champions of each group, who will be determined at the end of the second half of the season. Precisely for this reason, it's crucial to maintain the group lead.
As each group consists of four teams, Flamengo, the current two-time champion of the competition, will still play three more games within its group. The next one will be this Wednesday (November 06.11th), at 15:30 pm, at the Gávea social headquarters, against Bangu.
