'We reached all the finals in the youth categories this year,' said the director, after winning the Octávio Pinto Guimarães Tournament, this morning, at Engenhão
By By Marco Antonio Moreira - Flamengo Official Website - inFlamengo president Patrícia Amorim was thrilled with the Flamengo youth team's victory this morning at Engenhão Stadium. The 5-4 victory over Botafogo on penalties and 3-2 in the 90 minutes made the club the most successful team in the Octávio Pinto Guimarães tournament, with seven titles, compared to Vasco's six.
Winning the competition twice, one of the most important in the category this year, served to confirm that Flamengo is on the right track in the youth divisions.
As Patrícia Amorim herself highlighted, if the main team's 2012 year was not the best, on the other hand, at the base level, the club reached finals in all categories.
"Flamengo won this competition to confirm that we're on the right track. Many people criticize our management, but the truth is that we reached every final in the youth teams this year. The main team didn't perform well, and of course we need to sign experienced players for the professional team, but investing in the youth team is essential. And our management does this, and does it well. We have the courage and capacity to do this job well," said the Flamengo director, on the sidelines of the Engenhão pitch, moments after the penalty shootout that gave the title to Brazil's Most Beloved.
Flamengo's Football Director, Zinho, also went to the pitch after the match to congratulate the kids and Flamengo's coaching staff.
