By Communication - Official Club Website - inOn Saturday afternoon, Flamengo defeated Friburguense 4-0 in a match valid for the fourth round of the Taça Rio of the Carioca Under-20 Championship, at the Nivaldo Pereira stadium. The red-and-black goals were scored by the team's top scorer, Douglas Baggio (2), Cafu and Dumas.
Flamengo's juniors are in excellent form. In each match of the Rio Cup, the youngsters have shown their accuracy: four matches have resulted in four victories (3-0, 4-1, 6-0, and 4-0). The team has a 100% record in the second half of the Campeonato Carioca and leads on goal difference, 16 to Botafogo's 13, who also have 12 points.
"It's the players themselves who make the difference in this excellent performance. After three months of work, the coaching staff is managing to instill this mentality in the kids. We're teaching them that we have to get results early in matches, we have to maintain this rhythm. We tell them to approach each opponent as if it were a championship final. With early goals, the opponent is already shaken, and we can build on our victories. The kids are confident, they have this attitude of entering games with intensity, and they are understanding what it means to be a Flamengo player," praised coach Marcelo Buarque.
Next Wednesday (30.04), at 15 pm, Rubro-Negro returns to the field to face Macaé, at the opponent's training center.
