Flamengo won 3-1 against Maricá in the second round of the Under-20 Carioca Championship. The match was played on Saturday afternoon (9), at the José Bastos Padilha Stadium, in Gávea. Matheus Gonçalves, Guilherme and Iago scored the red-black goals.
Mengão's under-20 team will return to the field on the 16th, at 10 am, when they will face Bangu away from home, in Moça Bonita, for the third round of the Taça Guanabara.
The game
Three plays sealed Flamengo's two-goal lead over Maricá in the first half. Matheus Gonçalves, the best player of the period, was involved in two of them. In the first, the number 10 controlled the ball with his chest and shot from outside the box, but the ball hit the crossbar.
The game remained uneventful until the 43rd minute, when Matheus Gonçalves pounced on a loose ball and slotted it into the bottom right corner of the Maricá goalkeeper's net, leaving no chance for a save. Shortly before the end of the first half, Daniel Sales made a run down the right and crossed into the box. Alert, Guilherme made no mistake about the defense's mistake and scored the second.
In the first play of the second half, the opposition threatened with a free kick that went over the crossbar. In another attacking effort, Maricá reduced the deficit with Wendel, who rebounded a shot that hit the post in the 7th minute. Five minutes later, Daniel Sales played a one-two with Guilherme and crossed. Pedro Leão headed the ball, but the goalkeeper saved. Guilherme shot on the next play, but the opposing number 1 saved it again.
In the 17th minute, Guilherme was fouled on the edge of the box. Matheus Gonçalves' shot hit the crossbar. Flamengo increased its lead with a blistering counterattack. João Alves delivered a superb pass to Guilherme, who crossed for a precise finish from Iago, 23. With a solid lead, Flamengo tried to control the match and could have extended the lead, but it remained that way.
