The FootballboFlamengo's Base, through the Human Development sector, held a lecture this Tuesday on the risks of sports betting with the U-20 category.

Researcher and specialist in the training of sports managers, Charles Motta spoke with GarotosDoNinho about the legal and sporting consequences of match-fixing.

"I think that, more than anything, it's a very sensitive environment. We still have a set of uncertainties in the careers of these young people, so they are much more susceptible to being co-opted by this criminal behavior. The second discussion here is the perception of preventive behavior, also in the same way that they are very susceptible to being co-opted, that is, they are very susceptible to being positively influenced to avoid engaging in this type of criminal activity. So the greater the investment in educating these young people, these future professional players, the better. We will have a much lower susceptibility and a much lower incidence of behaviors related to betting arrangements and results, and so on," said Charles.

About the preventive and educational initiatives carried out with young people in the United States, which significantly reduced the number of athletes involved in sports betting. Cases that occurred in college sports, the NBA, NFL, and boxing

"I think we have to adapt what has already worked in other environments with sophistication appropriate to our social reality. I think these boys are at much greater social risk than in the North American environment, so they are even more sensitive to being co-opted. So if we start to model the understanding in relation to this reality and how deleterious and negative this can be for their careers, there is a very interesting margin for clubs to develop this type of action so that it unfolds to protect them, the club, the brands and the entire chain that accompanies football," he added.

The Human Development sector coordinator, Patrícia Negreiros, commented on the various lectures being organized for the youth teams:

"Given the current sports scenario, our Youth Football Manager, Luiz Carlos, asked us to intervene with the youth teams, especially those from U-15 and U-16 upwards, regarding the risks of betting. So we did. We invited Charles, who is a great scholar on current issues. And we initially brought it to the U-XNUMX team, and the idea is precisely for them to understand the risks involved in this issue of betting. Not only the legal risks involved, but also the entire sporting scenario that can affect their careers and their image. That was the goal today, and I think we achieved it. The boys left here talking a lot about the topic, recapturing everything they've been hearing. So, we hope it stuck with each of them and that they take it with them," he commented.

Throughout the week, the U-17, U-16 and U-15 categories will also participate in the activity.
