Defensive system is a strong point of Flamengo's youth team
Goalkeeper and defender who stood out in the last Under-20 State Championship are training with the professionals
By Communication - Official Club Website - inLuan, Digão, Samir, Fernando, and Felipe Dias. This was Flamengo's starting defensive lineup in the 20 Rio de Janeiro Under-2013 Championship. Considering only the qualifying round matches of both rounds of the competition, Flamengo had the tightest defense of any club.
"The State Championship was very good for our team. Even though we didn't win the title, the competition was important for us. I think our defense was very good and we hope to continue this rhythm until the end of the year to win a title," said Fernando, captain of Flamengo's U-20 team.
The boys performed so well in the U-20 Carioca Championship that they caught Jorginho's attention. Goalkeeper Luan and defender Samir began training with the seniors. Fernando, Felipe Dias, and Digão went on vacation with the rest of the youth squad, but all three have already played or trained with the senior team.
"Everyone is on vacation, but I'm still working with the professional team, gaining both experience and technical skills. The title didn't come, but I enjoyed my performances. I was able to transfer everything I trained into the games, and it paid off. I want to make the most of this time with the professional team so that when they need me in the U-20s, I can repeat my good performance from the State Championship," said Luan.
Luan and Samir aren't the only homegrown defenders now part of the professional squad. Goalkeepers César and Paulo Victor, and defender Frauches, also came through the Mais Querido youth ranks.
