Under-14s lose the final of the Copinha Silver Series to Atlético PR
The Ninho boys don't play their best football in the first half, they play catch-up in the second, but they finish second in the national competition.
By Ian Sena - inJust hours after winning the U-17 Brazil Cup at the Maracanã stadium by defeating Fluminense, the red-and-black youth team returned to the field to play a final. This time at the Cotia training center in São Paulo, they were to decide the U-14 Copinha Silver Series title against Atlético PR. Unable to find their best form after defeating Cruzeiro and Palmeiras in their last two matches, the Garotos do Ninho conceded two goals in the first half and, despite a strong fight in the second half, were defeated 2-0 and finished runner-up in the U-14 Copinha Silver Series.
Just two minutes into the game, Victor Hugo dominated the attacking sector and crossed into the box. Petterson collected the rebound and fired it wide. A minute later, Atlético opened the scoring when Emerson capitalized on a rebound from a good save by Dyogo to tap it into the back of the net. Ten minutes in, Matheus França unleashed a rocket from outside the box, but goalkeeper Mycael made a great save. In the final play of the first half, Kenzo fired a cross-shot to extend the Paraná team's lead.
The Mais Querido returned for the second half willing to seek at least a draw, and had control of possession, but, well-armed defensively and playing on the counterattack, the team from Paraná managed the advantage well and did not have many scares, holding the result and becoming champion of the Silver Series in 2018.
With great individual highlights in the competition, Mais Querido received the awards for best coach of the tournament (Leonardo Cherede), best goalkeeper (Dyogo) and also the Fair Play trophy, for the most disciplined team in the Copinha.
