Despite finishing the competition undefeated, Flamengo's Under-15 team was defeated by Palmeiras 4-2 on penalties (after a 0-0 draw in regulation time) in the final of the Brazilian Children's Football Cup (also known as the Votorantim Cup), and finished in second place in the 2018 edition of the competition. Two-time champion of the most important competition in the category in the country, winning the titles in 2015 and 2017, the beloved team returns to Rio de Janeiro with a sense of accomplishment, and will now prepare for the State Championship after Carnival.

The first half was very disjointed, with few scoring opportunities for either team, a typical championship final game. Flamengo had two chances: at three minutes, João Vitor tried a shot from outside the area, and goalkeeper Sales made a comfortable save in the middle of the goal. At 22 minutes, Daniel tried to make a diagonal pass to Ryan, but the ball deflected off the Palmeiras defender and ended up in the goalkeeper's hands.

The second half had a few more scoring chances. In the 5th minute, João Pedro carried the ball down the left and entered the area dangerously, but, pressured by the defense, he couldn't deliver the cross he wanted and the ball went out of play. In the 11th minute, from a corner kick in favor of Palmeiras, Jhow deflected the ball into the middle of the area and Marcio headed weakly, allowing Christian to make the save. The game was tense. In the 26th minute, goalkeeper Christian saved Flamengo with two great saves from close-range shots inside the six-yard box. 

In the penalty shootout, Christian saved Ian's shot, putting Flamengo's youth team ahead. But then, Felippe and Ryan missed their penalties, and Palmeiras won 4-2, becoming champions of the competition for the first time in their history.

"Unfortunately, the spectacle is hampered by the condition of the pitch. I want to congratulate my team for the commitment and dedication they showed throughout the competition, and I also want to congratulate Palmeiras on their well-deserved title, as they proved to be the most consistent team in this edition of the Votorantim Cup," said coach Mario Jorge.
