U-16s beat Portuguesa in the return leg of the Guilherme Embry Tournament
Weverton and Mayquinho score four of Rubro-Negro's seven goals
By Nathan Mello - inIn a match valid for the 2nd round of the return leg of the Guilherme Embry Tournament, Flamengo's under-16 team hosted Portuguesa on Wednesday morning (8), in Gávea, and beat the visiting team 7-2. Weverton (2), Mayquinho (2), Rykelmo, Samuel and Jhonata scored for Mais Querido. Caio scored an own goal and Paulo Vitor scored for Lusa. The Garotos do Ninho return to the field next Wednesday (15), in a classic against Vasco, at CT Artsul, at 9 am.
The game:
Flamengo started as expected, applying pressure from the opening whistle. At some point, Portuguesa's defense couldn't hold its own. It was in the 16th minute that Flamengo opened the scoring. Mayquinho took a corner kick, and Rykelmo beat him to the spot to break the deadlock.
After the water break, in the 22nd minute, Marcos Felipe crossed from the right and Weverton tapped in to extend the lead. The third goal didn't take long to arrive. In the 28th minute, Samuel found Caio well on the left. The full-back burst into the box at speed and delivered a perfect cross for the number 7 to volley into the goalkeeper's right corner. A stunning goal!
The fourth goal came in the first half. In the 33rd minute, Weverton took control of the ball from the edge of the box, burst into the box, and was brought down. Mayquinho stepped up to take the shot and beat the goalkeeper to score. Flamengo 4-0 Portuguesa. Near the end of the first half, Paulo Vitor pulled one back for Lusa with a header after a cross from the right.
After the break, Flamengo didn't slow down, scoring their fifth goal in the 10th minute, thanks to another stunning solo effort by Weverton. The number 9 dribbled past two defenders, twice leaving his opponents on the ground, and was brought down inside the box. Mayquinho confidently converted the penalty into the left corner to score his second of the match.
Next, Lusa pulled one back, this time with an own goal. In a play down the left, the Portuguesa player crossed from deep, the ball deflected midway, hitting left-back Caio in the face, and then going in. Flamengo 5-2 Portuguesa.
After scoring one and setting up two goals for Mayquinho, Weverton was unstoppable. The striker was released on the left, drove the ball, and sent a low cross shot to score his second of the match. A perfect score for the Boy from the Nest. As the clock neared the end of regulation, Jhonata pounced on a rebound from the goalkeeper to seal the final blow for the red-and-blacks.
