Under-16s begin their fight for the Guilherme Embry title with a victory
Current champions, Garotos do Ninho easily beat Olaria 3-0.
By Ian Sena - inCurrent champion of the competition, Flamengo debuted in the 2018 Guilherme Embry Tournament (the Under-16 State Championship) with a victory. Facing Olaria on the hot morning of this Wednesday (09) in Gávea, the Garotos do Ninho had no difficulties and defeated the opponent by a score of 3x0 (Lázaro [2] and Marcos Felipe). Coach Ramon Lima's team returns to the field next Tuesday (15) at 11 am against Portuguesa, at the Rua Figueira de Melo Stadium.
Flamengo opened the scoring after just ten minutes. Caio won the ball back on the left and crossed to Lázaro at the far post. The striker calmly beat goalkeeper Guilherme and scored the Rubro-Negro's first goal of the competition. In the 20th minute, Daniel Cabral received the ball in the box and only missed the second because the defense cleared it on the line. Having largely dominated the match, the Mais Querido extended their lead in the 28th minute with a beautiful goal by Lázaro. He shook off his marker and fired a knowing shot from the edge of the box, unstoppable for Guilherme.
In the 32nd minute, Lázaro again made a great play and crossed to Jean Carlos's head. He flicked the ball past the goalkeeper, but the ball went wide of Olaria's goal. The third came in the first half. In the 38th minute, Marcos Felipe received the ball and fired a cross-shot. The ball went under Guilherme and into the back of the net.
Just like in the first half, Flamengo dominated the match throughout the second half. However, with a comfortable lead and the intense heat, the "Garotos do Ninho" focused on managing the victory and avoiding excessive wear and tear. In the 14th minute, Peçanha struck a powerful shot from the edge of the box and narrowly missed scoring a stunning goal. The ball grazed the suburban team's right crossbar.
In the 20th minute, a beautiful attacking move nearly resulted in a fourth goal. Jean Carlos controlled the ball and waited for Caio to pass. The left-back received the ball and crossed intelligently to Lázaro, who struck first time. Defender Ryan cleared it off the line. Mayquinho tried to tap in the rebound, but the defense cleared it again. The Rubro-Negro's last chance at goal came in the 25th minute. After a beautiful triangulation involving Mayquinho and Lázaro, Caio received the ball in the box and skillfully beat the goalkeeper, but the ball went wide.
