U-16 wins another in the Guilherme Embry Tournament
A 2-1 victory over Barra da Tijuca puts Garotos do Ninho in the lead of the first half alongside Botafogo.
By Ian Sena - inIn the sweltering heat of Gávea, Flamengo's U-16 team, led by coach Ramon Lima, defeated Barra da Tijuca on Wednesday morning (20) in a match valid for the sixth round of the Guilherme Embry Tournament. The 2-1 victory, with two goals from Lázaro, transforms the next round's derby against Botafogo, at CEFAT, into a sort of "final" of the first round of the competition. As the two teams are tied at the top of the tournament with 17 points, whoever wins will be very close to securing the symbolic title in the first round and already guaranteeing a place in the final triangular that will decide the champion later on. After the derby, two more rounds will be played. Flamengo will host Boavista and close the first round playing away against Piscinão de Ramos, at Leônidas da Silva Stadium, in Bonsucesso.
In the 21st minute, Lázaro took a dangerous free kick, but goalkeeper Ribas made a comfortable save. In the 23rd minute, the Boys from Ninho opened the scoring. Mayquinho burst into the box and passed to Lázaro, who fired a cross-shot. Ribas still got a touch on the ball but couldn't prevent the Mais Querido's first goal of the game. In the 27th minute, Mayquinho took a corner kick that Gabriel Noga headed firmly. Well-positioned, Ribas made another save. It was all Flamengo. In the 35th minute, after a beautiful triangulation involving Dhouglas and Marcos Felipe, Mayquinho hit a first-time shot, but the ball was weak and ended up in Ribas' hands.
The second goal came in the first half. Mayquinho took a free kick from the sidelines in the 37th minute, Ribas released the ball, and Lázaro, alert, fired a first-time shot over the goalkeeper and doubled the Rubro-Negro's lead. In the final play before halftime, Mayquinho sent a free kick into the top corner. The ball capriciously hit the crossbar of the West Zone team.
Flamengo maintained the pressure throughout the second half. In the seventh minute, Caio crossed to Lázaro, who missed. Pedro Arthur then hit the ball into the net from the outside. In the 11th minute, Lázaro passed to Caio, who crossed into the box. Marcos Felipe appeared as a surprise man, but his header went over the goal of the team from the west zone. In the 17th minute, Peçanha fired a beautiful shot from the edge of the box. Ribas flew and made a great save, palming it out for a corner.
Barra da Tijuca reduced the deficit in the 32nd minute with a well-taken penalty by Anaílson. Bernardo headed the corner and narrowly missed the save. The Ninho Boys returned to the attack and nearly killed the game in the 40th minute. Peçanha took a corner, and Otávio appeared unmarked inside the six-yard box. His shot was first-time, and the ball hit the post of goalkeeper Ribas, who was helpless. The referee then blew the final whistle.
