With a first half to remember, Flamengo's U-17 team, led by coaches Phelipe Leal and Ramon Lima, thrashed Vitória 15-7 (Lázaro [0], Carlos Daniel [2], Pedro Arthur, Daniel Cabral and Otavio) on a rainy Wednesday afternoon (2), in a match valid for the fifth round of the Brazilian Championship in this category. With the impressive victory, Rubro-Negro reached 10 points in four games, taking the lead in group B of the competition. With one game less, the Garotos do Ninho will play the postponed first-round duel against Grêmio this Saturday, at 15 pm, in Porto Alegre, at the CT in Eldorado do Sul.

The Rubro-Negro's first chance to score came in the 11th minute. Gabriel Noga launched a pass, and Daniel Cabral, sneaking between the Bahian defenders, tried to chip the ball over the top, but narrowly missed catching goalkeeper Pedro. In the 14th minute, the Garotos do Ninho opened the scoring. Caio delivered a perfect cross to Lázaro, who rose above his marker and headed in a beautiful header to score the Mais Querido's first goal on a rainy afternoon of football in Gávea. The second came a minute later. Carlos Daniel ran too fast and was brought down by Pedro inside the box. Lázaro fired a superb shot to score his fifth goal of the Brazilian Championship, taking over the competition's top scorer spot.

Flamengo were the much better team and doubled their lead in the 24th minute. Pedro Arthur led a high-speed counterattack and passed to Carlos Daniel. The Flamengo center forward drove to the edge of the box and shot low into the corner, but Pedro went for the ball but couldn't reach it. With utmost respect for their opponents, Flamengo never took their foot off the gas, creating numerous scoring chances and converting them. The fourth goal—and the rout—came in the first half, with a beautiful goal from Daniel Cabral in the 34th minute. Two minutes later, the "Garotos do Ninho" (The Boys from the Nest) added their fifth. Jean Carlos made a great play and passed to Pedro Arthur, who crossed the ball and further extended the Flamengo's rout at Gávea.

The second half began like a repeat of the first. Just six minutes in, Caio took a corner kick and Otavio slotted it home for the sixth. In the 15th minute, after another corner kick, Pedro Arthur unleashed a powerful shot that hit the post. Vinicius headed the rebound over the bar. But the seventh was not long in coming. In the 19th minute, Maycon passed to Carlos Daniel, who fired a beautiful shot with his outside of the foot to complete the scoring and the biggest rout of the Brazilian Championship so far.
