U-17 defeats Bayern Munich in the Puskas Cup
The Nest Boys turn on the Germans and are the leaders of the group
By Ian Sena - inFlamengo's U-17 team took to the field this Saturday morning (19) at the Pancho Arena in Hungary, knowing they would play a real final, and against none other than Bayern Munich. After losing their debut 1-0 to Puskas Akadémia (Hungary) and beating Panathinaikos (Greece) 4-0 in the second round, the Boys from the Nest needed a victory against the Germans at any cost to stay alive in the Puskas Cup. And the objective was achieved with a beautiful comeback.
The Germans scored with their first and only chance of the first half. Six minutes into the match, Manghofer rose and headed in a corner kick. The Mais Querido pushed forward in search of a comeback, the only result they needed, and pressed hard throughout the match, but only managed to score in the second half, when they were even more incisive.
In the eighth minute, Reinier made a beautiful run down the right and passed the ball to the edge of the box, where Rhyan fired a shot just wide of the post. The ball also went close in the tenth minute, but over the bar, thanks to a powerful shot from Gomes. The equalizer finally came in the 17th minute. Braian passed the ball to Bruno Gabriel, who delivered a beautiful cross for Rodrigo Muniz to head home. Just four minutes later, Reinier received the ball from Gomes in midfield, carried the ball, and fired a shot from outside the box, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance to save, ensuring justice for the score, which remained level until the final whistle.
With the victory, the "Garotos do Ninho" (Nest Boys) are top of Group A of the competition, with six points. Since only the top-place team in each group qualifies directly for the final, the Rubro-Negro will be rooting for a Panathinaikos victory over Puskas Akadémia this Sunday, thus reaching another international competition final this season.
