In the first play of the match, Kaio Nobrega hit a beautiful shot from outside the box, which the goalkeeper rebounded to Douglas Telles, who pushed it into the net, but was caught offside. Fluminense opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a breakaway down the left.

Flamengo equalized with Johnny, who moved upfield, flicked the ball on, and crossed for Douglas Telles, who volleyed it past the goalkeeper. However, another counterattack, this time from the right, gave the home team a 2-0 lead.
In the last play of the first half, Luiz Phellipe stole the ball in attack and crossed for Joshua to head and almost start the Rubro-Negra comeback.
