In the seventh round of the Guanabara U-17 Cup, Flamengo drew 0-0 with Vasco on Saturday morning (25), in Gávea. As stipulated by the championship regulations, the match went to penalties and Mengão won 4-3, with goals from Petterson, Darlan, Rayan and Victor Hugo. With the result, the Garotos do Ninho added two more points to the standings (20 points) and remain at the top of the competition.
The game
The derby started quite tensely, with numerous fouls in midfield to stop the play. The Ninho Boys tried to break out and exchange passes for attack, but struggled to finish. In the 23rd minute, Fabricio Yan arrived well from the left side of the box and shot at goal, but the ball went wide.
Flamengo continued to try to create chances. In the 34th minute, Vitor Muller took a shot from outside the box, but the ball sailed over the opposing goal. With few opportunities, the first half ended 0-0.
The first good chance of the second half came from Rodriguinho, who received the ball on the right, cut inside, and struck a powerful shot. The ball sailed over the crossbar. In the 12th minute, goalkeeper Dyogo made a fine save to prevent Vasco from scoring. In the 18th minute, Vinicius crossed into the box, and Victor Hugo headed over the bar.
Midway through the second half, after Mario Jorge's substitutions, the red-and-black team became more offensive and began creating more chances up front. In the 35th minute, after a corner kick, Darlan rose with style and headed the ball. The ball grazed the goalkeeper's right post. The match ended in a draw after regulation time.
The competition rules provide for a penalty shootout if the match ends in a draw, awarding an extra point to the winner. Mengão prevailed, winning 4-3. Petterson, Darlan, Rayan, and Victor Hugo, respectively, converted their penalties. Goalkeeper Dyogo Alves excelled, saving a penalty.
Next appointment
The U-17s return to the field next Thursday (30) to face Cruzeiro, at 19 pm, at Luso Brasileiro, for the second leg of the quarter-finals of the Copa do Brasil in the category.
