U-17s secure a spot in the Rio Cup final after drawing 2-2 with Vasco
The Ninho Boys had the advantage on the scoreboard after a better campaign in the first phase and now face Botafogo in the final.
By Thiago Moreira - inFlamengo drew 2-2 with Vasco in the semifinals of the U-17 Rio Cup and secured a spot in the tournament final. The match was played in Gávea, on Saturday morning (12), and the Rubro-Negro had the advantage of the draw due to having achieved the better campaign in the first phase. The opponent in the final will be Botafogo, who defeated Fluminense in the other match.
The Mais Querido started the game more defensively, looking for quick plays and capitalizing on Cruzmaltino's mistakes. In the 22nd minute, Pedro Arthur received the ball in the box and struck hard to open the scoring. In the 35th minute, Pedro Arthur again emerged with a strong attacking move, passing to Carlos Daniel on the right wing. The number 11 delivered a beautiful low cross to Caio, who tapped it into the back of the net, extending the lead for the Garotos do Ninho.
Vasco pulled one back in the second half with Yuri and equalized in the 29th minute with a penalty kick from Pedro. Caio, who scored the second goal for Flamengo, was sent off after the referee awarded the penalty to the São Januário club, leaving Flamengo with 10 players on the field until the end of the match, which ended with the score tied and the Mais Querido qualified for the final of the Taça Rio U-17.
