U-17s thrashed Goytacaz and remained 100% in the Rio Cup
Under heavy rain in Gávea, Garotos do Ninho win 4-1 and achieve their second victory in the second half of the season.
By Ian Sena - inIn a match played under heavy rain on Saturday afternoon (03), in Gávea, Flamengo's U-17 team, now led by coach Ramon Lima, beat Goytacaz 4-1 (João Pedro [2], Igor Lemos and Leonardo), in the second round of the Taça Rio. Now, the category, which had its main team being champion of the Manchester United U-18 Summer Tournament 2019, in England, focuses on preparing for the finals of the Brazilian Championship, against Corinthians. The first game will be next Saturday, the 10th, at 10 am, at Pacaembú.
Flamengo pressed from the start and managed to open the scoring just three minutes into the match. Igor Lemos received the ball wide on the right wing and crossed to João Pedro, who headed it in with style, leaving goalkeeper Cauã with no chance. The rain was heavy and hampered both teams. Even so, Flamengo was superior and nearly scored a second goal in the 32nd minute. The first was a beautiful shot from outside the box by João Pedro, which was partially saved by Cauã. Kayque fired a first-time shot from the rebound, and the ball hit the Campinas crossbar.
In the 35th minute, the Ninho Boys extended their lead in style. After a scramble in the box, the ball fell to Igor Lemos, who displayed composure and skill to subtly tap in a cross-shot to score Flamengo's second goal of the match. In the final play of the first half, Micael's cross-shot grazed Cauã's right post.
Goytacaz pulled one back four minutes into the second half, with a beautiful goal from Cerrado after an individual play. Giving the game no chance to get complicated, Flamengo scored the third in the 12th minute, when João Pedro delivered a masterful backheel pass to Leonardo, who fired a first-time cross into Cauã's left corner. In the 23rd minute, the rout was complete. Renan made a beautiful individual play, burst into the box, and rolled the ball to João Pedro, who simply tapped it into the back of the Goytacaz net for Mengão's fourth. In the final play of the match, Renan fired a shot from inside the box, but goalkeeper Cauã made a spectacular save, preventing Flamengo's fifth goal, but not the Mais Querido's second victory in two games in the Taça Rio.
