U-17s beat Londrina and are in the second phase of the Copa do Brasil

Ninho Boys win 4-1 and await América MG or Chapecoense in the next stage of the competition

It was a thrilling encounter. After losing 1-0 in the first leg of the Copa do Brasil first round last week at Estádio do Café in Londrina, the Garotos do Ninho U-17 team took the field this Tuesday afternoon (09) in Gávea for the return leg needing a win, but they were in for a shock. In the first few seconds, the Paraná team opened the scoring. With their heads in the right place and demonstrating maturity, Flamengo turned the match around and won 4-1 (Lázaro, Sidney, Lucas Freitas and Rhyan), a score that was enough for the Rubro-Negro to qualify for the second round of the national competition. The Garotos do Ninho now await the definition of their opponent, which will come from the match between Chapecoense and América MG scheduled for this Wednesday at Arena Condá. The Minas Gerais team won the first leg 1-0.

The game

The match started off in a furious, high-octane fashion. Londrina had two chances to open the scoring within the first minute. In the first, just ten seconds into the match, Jefferson burst through unmarked and missed. In the next play, after a scuffle in the box, Maykon attempted a shot, but Natan ended up scoring an own goal. A minute later, Flamengo equalized. Ramon took a corner kick that was headed by Lázaro, who got ahead of his marker and tapped it into the back of the net. The comeback could have come right after that. In the fifth minute, Yuri de Oliveira burst into the box at speed and was awarded a penalty. Gomes took the shot, but goalkeeper Higor made the save. The ball then hit the post before going out for a corner.

The Boys from the Nest pressed hard in search of a second goal. In the 25th minute, Lázaro had a good chance at the edge of the box, but his shot went over the bar. In the 37th minute, Luis Gustavo crossed into the box and Lázaro rose above the defense, but his header was weak and didn't pose much of a threat to the Paraná team's goal. A minute later, Daniel Cabral, who had replaced Lucas Gabriel, unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the box. The goalkeeper merely watched and cheered, and the ball sailed past Higor's crossbar.

Flamengo was all for it. In the 43rd minute, Lázaro hit a cross that sailed the length of the Londrina goal. In the next play, midfielder Joãozinho tackled Rhyan from behind and received a second yellow card, leaving the opponent with ten men in the final play of the first half.

The pressure continued in the second half, but this time the goal came quickly. In the eighth minute, Ramon crossed and Rhyan headed powerfully, drawing a great save from Higor. On the rebound, Sidney appeared well-positioned and unleashed a left-footed volley that bulged the net and finally put the Red-Blacks ahead. But the score still wasn't enough for direct qualification, and the Boys of the Nest went in search of a third.

In the 16th minute, Natan headed the ball, but Higor firmly saved. Daniel Cabral and Yuri de Oliveira then had good opportunities but didn't score. The defender was the one who did. In the 24th minute, after a corner kick, Lázaro deflected the ball at the near post, and Lucas Freitas appeared unexpectedly to slot it home with his left foot and score the third goal for the red-and-blacks, a result needed to qualify for the second round without a penalty shootout. But the best was yet to come. In the 40th minute, Rhyan received the ball in the box, cut onto his left foot, and fired a beautiful, conscious shot into the top corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. It was the stunning goal that qualified the Garotos do Ninho for the second round of the Copa do Brasil.
