U-17s thrashed Maranhão 8-0 and placed both feet in the quarterfinals of the Copa do Brasil

In a match played this Thursday afternoon (03), in Gávea, and valid for the first leg of the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil, Flamengo's U-17 team did not need to make much effort to beat Maranhão (MA) by an undeniable 8x0 (Werton [3], Petterson [2], Cleiton, Fabricio Yan and Rodriguinho), and practically guarantee their qualification for the quarter-finals of the competition. Next Thursday, the Garotos do Ninho will go to São Luís very calmly for the return match. Before that, on Monday (07), Mais Querido will decide in Curitiba against Athletico PR the place in the grand final of the Brazilian Championship of the category. In the first leg, 0x0 with Flamengo as the home team, in Cariacica. SporTV will broadcast live, at 5 pm.

How was the rout?

Flamengo's first shot on goal came just one minute into the game. Petterson struck a beautiful first-time shot to the right of the Maranhão-born goalkeeper Dida. Shortly after, at four minutes, Mengão opened the scoring. Will took a corner kick that Cleiton headed in, giving the goalkeeper no chance. The Flamengo youth team were determined to decide the game as early as possible, and they scored their second goal at 12 minutes. Werton received the ball at speed, got past his marker, and shot with his left foot into the corner, giving Dida no chance to save. And there was still time for one more. In the 48th minute, Fabricio Yan shot across goal and scored the fourth goal for the Flamengo youth team.

With a comfortable lead built in the first half, Flamengo returned for the second half slowing the game down. Even without forcing the issue too much, they increased the scoreline. In the 17th minute, Pedro Turini crossed the ball to Rodriguinho, who headed in the fifth goal. In the 21st minute, Petterson received the ball at the edge of the area, dribbled past the goalkeeper, and scored Flamengo's sixth goal of the match. 

There was still more to come. In the 28th minute, Werton received the ball in the area, left the defender and the goalkeeper on the ground, and tapped it into the empty net. Don't lose count, that was Flamengo's seventh goal at Gávea. It becomes four, it ends up being eight. In the 43rd minute, Werton scored his hat-trick of the match and his ninth goal of the season, sealing the Flamengo rout at Gávea.
