Under-17s lose to Botafogo but remain in contention for the Guanabara Cup title
Garotos do Ninho are in second place, just one point behind Vasco.
By Ian Sena - inThe U-17 team failed to repeat their performance from the last 18 rounds of the Guanabara Cup, a period in which they remained unbeaten and without conceding a goal in an impressive 13 games. In a classic played this Saturday morning (15), the Garotos do Ninho were defeated by Botafogo 3-0 in Gávea, and lost the competition's lead to Vasco, who thrashed Boavista and stayed one point ahead of Mais Querido. There are two rounds left until the tournament is defined. Next Saturday (22), Flamengo faces Bangu away from home, and hopes for at least a draw from Vasco in the classic against Fluminense, in Laranjeiras, to return to the lead and depend only on a victory against Portuguesa in the last round to, like the U-15, be crowned champion of the Guanabara Cup.

In the tenth minute, Pedro Victor made a poor pass, and Botafogo nearly opened the scoring with Gabriel, whose shot went wide, creating a dangerous chance. The derby was very evenly matched, with very few scoring chances. In the 20th minute, Yuri de Oliveira took a superb free kick. Goalkeeper Andrew flew at the ball, which skimmed the crossbar and wouldn't go in. Botafogo opened the scoring in the 40th minute with João Cardoso.
The Ninho Boys tried to change the pace of the game in the second half. In the third minute, Luis Gustavo shot low, but Andrew made a solid save. But Botafogo extended their lead in the 13th minute with Marcello. The following minute, Yuri de Oliveira had a good opportunity to reduce the deficit, but the ball deflected off the defense and went wide of the Botafogo goal's left post. In the 17th minute, Yuri de Oliveira again had his shot blocked, which made it easy for Andrew to save.
The pressure was intense in search of the first goal. In the 19th minute, Yuri de Oliveira took a free kick, and captain Natan headed it in. The ball hit the post. Flamengo fought hard, but on a counterattack, Botafogo was awarded a penalty in the final minute of the game. Gabriel took the penalty and sealed the victory.
