The 1-1 draw with Villarreal in the opening match of the Evergrande Cup U17 International Football Championship is in the past. The focus of the Garotos do Ninho is on this Tuesday's (21) match against Peñarol (URU), in the second round of the international competition, at 8:30 am (Brasília time).
Flamengo's U-17 team enjoyed the taste of an international title this year by lifting the Adidas Generation Cup in Dallas, with a 100% record. Coach Phelipe Leal commented on the importance of once again leading the "Garotos do Ninho" in a tournament featuring teams from around the world.
"This competition in China is another opportunity for us to give our players experience. Flamengo understands the importance of raising the bar and demanding the competition, considering that this context enhances everyone's development. Our expectations are always the best possible. We came to Evergrande to seek another title for the club's youth academy and, above all, to strive to compete with quality."
Flamengo is second in Group B with one point, while Peñarol leads with three points. With a victory over the Uruguayans, Flamengo will enter the final round with a clear path to qualification, potentially drawing with bottom-placed Hubei FA.
