U-17 finishes first phase undefeated and qualifies for the semifinals of the Generation Adidas Cup, in the United States

After a spectacular 2016 season filled with achievements at home, Flamengo's youth team is starting 2017 doing well abroad as well. In the United States since last week for the Generation Adidas Cup, a major international competition featuring teams from South, Central, and North America, and Europe, the Mais Querido's U-17 team finished the group stage undefeated and in first place in Group B, securing a spot in the semifinals of the tournament being held in Frisco, Texas.

In the opening match on April 07.04th, a 1-1 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt of Germany. The 5-4 victory on penalties gave the Red-Blacks their first two points in the competition. Subsequently, two 3-1 victories against the American LA Galaxy and Sporting Kansas City gave the "Garotos do Ninho" (Nest Boys) the lead in the group. This Thursday afternoon (April 13.04th), at 20:15 pm local time, Flamengo will face the New York Red Bulls in a match that will be worth a spot in the championship final. The other semifinal takes place immediately after, between Independiente Del Valle (EQU) and River Plate (ARG). The winners will play the final next Saturday, April 15.04th.

U-20s on their way to Europe

At the end of May, the U-20 team will travel to represent Flamengo in two tournaments in Europe. The first stop will be the TerborgToernooi Tournament in the Netherlands. The "Garotos do Ninho" will debut on May 26th against De Graafschap of the Netherlands. Next, they will face Manchester United of England and Ajax Cape Town of South Africa. The top two teams in the group will qualify for the semifinals of the competition, where they will meet the top two teams in the other group, which includes Atlético Mineiro, AZ Alkmaar (HOL), Attram De Visser (GAN), and Club Bruge (BEL).

Soon after, Germany will be the red-and-black's destination on their European journey. Played at Die Arena, the Spax Cup will also feature an eight-team system divided into two groups, with the top two teams qualifying for the semifinals. Flamengo is in the Sparkasse Group, alongside FC Midtjylland (DIN), Hamburg (GER), and Schalke 04, against whom the "Garotos do Ninho" will make their competition debut on June 3rd. The Erkilic Group will consist of Atlético Mineiro, Zenit (RUS), Wolfsburg (GER), and Tus Ennepetal (GER).
