U-17 wins sixth consecutive Brazilian Championship and secures qualification for the quarterfinals
The Ninho Boys thrashed América MG 4-0, maintaining their perfect campaign and qualifying for the knockout stage with three rounds to spare.
By Ian Sena - inIn a match played on Saturday afternoon (12), in Gávea, Flamengo's U-17 team, led by coach Mário Jorge, thrashed América MG 4-0 (Matheus França [2], Victor Hugo and Matheus Gonçalves), maintained their 100% record in a perfect campaign after six rounds and, in addition, mathematically guaranteed their classification for the quarterfinals of the Brazilian Championship, with three rounds to go. Isolated leader of Group A with 18 points won in six games and owner of the best campaign by far in the Brasileirão, the Garotos do Ninho return to the field next Saturday (19), when they visit Atlético GO at 15 pm, in Goiânia.
Flamengo started pressing and looking for a goal from the opening whistle. Just four minutes in, Dudu crossed, and Pedro Turini narrowly missed scoring with a header. In the 13th minute, Dudu back-heeled the ball, and Matheus França fired a low shot, which goalkeeper Eduardo made a solid save. In the 20th minute, Matheus Gonçalves made a beautiful individual play and passed to Matheus França, who was brought down inside the box. Victor Hugo fired a powerful shot, opening the scoring for the Ninho Boys.
The Ninho Boys returned for the second half with the same attacking style, extending their lead in the sixth minute. After a cross into the box, Matheus França won the battle with the defense and scored Mengão's second goal of the match. But the Red-Blacks wanted more. In the 16th minute, Matheus Gonçalves unleashed a first-time shot from the edge of the box, which flew just wide of Eduardo's crossbar. In the 22nd minute, Darlan headed the ball and nearly made it three.
At 27, there was no way out. Matheus França unleashed a rocket from outside the box, further extending the Mais Querido's lead. At 38, it became a rout. Matheus Gonçalves showed opportunism once again, striking first-time, like a center forward, to score Mengão's fourth, sealing another victory for the Garotos do Ninho in the Brasileirão.
Coach: Mario Jorge.
