After thrashing Maranhão mercilessly 8-0 in the first leg played last week in Gávea, Flamengo's U-17 team traveled to São Luís on Thursday afternoon (10) to play the formal second leg of the round of 4 of the Copa do Brasil in that category. Even though they entered the Castelão Stadium field certain of qualification, the Garotos do Ninho took the game seriously, played well and beat their opponents once again, this time by a score of 3-2 (Matheus Gonçalves [15], Lucas Matheus and Andrey). Interestingly, the two scorers of the first three goals for Flamengo in the match are still in the U-2021 category. In the quarterfinals, the Mais Querido will face Sport, in matches scheduled only for January XNUMX. The home field ties will still be drawn by the CBF.

With the massive advantage gained in the first leg at Gávea, the Garotos do Ninho took the field with a completely changed lineup. But the players who had the opportunity to play went on the attack and sought victory from the opening whistle. The first chance came in the 14th minute, when Pedro Turini's free kick was saved by Maranhão goalkeeper Dida. In the 16th minute, the home team responded with a free kick. Marcos took the shot, and Francisco Dyogo flew beautifully to make a great save, palming it out for a corner.

Flamengo was superior on the field. In the 21st minute, Pedrinho drove the ball from the center line, beat three defenders, and fired a shot from the edge of the box. Dida made another good save, preventing Flamengo's first goal. In the 34th minute, Pedro Turino delivered a beautiful pass to Petterson, who cleverly chipped the ball past Dida. The ball capriciously bounced off Maranhão's left post. The next minute, Pedrinho rolled the ball over, and Petterson fired another shot, this time over Dida's goal.

The Mais Querido continued to press, and even created good opportunities in the first half through Luis Felipe and Pedrinho. Dida appeared well on both occasions. In the last opportunity before halftime, Pedro Turini made a beautiful individual play, dribbling past his marker, and firing a cross to the left of Dida's goal. 

Flamengo returned even more attacking in the second half, with Matheus Gonçalves replacing Vitor Muller and Lugas Matheus replacing Luis Felipe. They would later change the course of the match. Flamengo created its first scoring opportunity just two minutes in, when Petterson crossed and Rodriguinho headed over the crossbar. A minute later, Lucas Matheus took a chance from the edge of the box, but the ball went too high. 

Mengão was all attack. In the tenth minute, Lucas Matheus entered the box and shot a cross to the right of Dida's goal. In the 11th minute, Isaque took a chance from outside the box, and Francisco Dyogo palmed it out for a corner. In the 14th minute, Maranhão opened the scoring with Yago. The Garotos do Ninho equalized in the next play, with a brilliant Matheus Gonçalves, who got past his marker and shot into the top corner of Dida's net. A U-15 player, it was his first goal for the U-17 category. Two minutes later, in the 17th minute, Pedrinho rolled the ball over, and Matheus Gonçalves scored another stunning goal, this time chipping it into the back of the net past the Maranhão goalkeeper. 

Flamengo wanted more and extended their lead in the 20th minute. Lucas Matheus received the ball at the edge of the box and beat Dida to score his first goal for the U-17 category. Like Matheus Gonçalves, Lucas Matheus also plays for the U-15 category. In the 26th minute, Fabricio Yan took a classy free kick into the top corner. Dida jumped on it and made another great save. But in the 36th minute, there was no way out; Andrey rose and headed a beautiful header into the back of the net. It was the first goal for the striker, who arrived this year from Volta Redonda, wearing the Manto Sagrado. In the 44th minute, Gabriel Bastos took a masterful free kick, but the ball bounced off Dida's crossbar and off the line. On the rebound, Andrey's shot was blocked by the goalkeeper.

In stoppage time, Marcos André pulled one back from a free kick for Maranhão. Jânio then added the third, sealing another victory for the red-and-blacks in the Copa do Brasil.
