Flamengo got off to a flying start in the knockout stages of the Campeonato Carioca Sub-20 by beating Nova Iguaçu 2-0 away from home. Guilherme and Wallace Yan scored for Mengão, who were led by Filipe Luís.

The first half began with a measured approach, with Flamengo finding space in the opposing defense with the movements of their attackers. Just 13 minutes in, a goal-scoring opportunity arose when, in the midst of pressure, Carbone dispossessed the ball, and the ball fell to Felipe Lima, who found his namesake Teresa free to head it in, but the goalkeeper saved it.

The defenders began to participate more in the build-up play, benefiting from good movement from Felipe Teresa and Guilherme.
