Saturday was not a positive day for the club's youth soccer. In matches held at Gávea, the U-20 and U-17 teams were defeated, despite putting intense pressure on their opponents from the first minute to the last.

In the eighth round of the Guanabara Cup U-20, Flamengo hosted Nova Iguaçu and saw their opponent take the lead in the 11th minute with a header from Coutinho. From then on, the Mais Querido (Flamengo's Favorite) pressed their opponent and created numerous scoring chances. The most important of these was Daniel Cabral's shot from outside the box, which hit the crossbar of the Baixada Fluminense team's goalkeeper. With the loss, Mengão is in a tougher position in the fight for the Guanabara Cup title, but is very close to confirming its qualification for the quarterfinals of the Campeonato Carioca. In the ninth round, Flamengo visits Fluminense, in a classic scheduled for next Sunday (22), at 10 am, at Estádio das Laranjeiras.

Next, the U-17 Boys of the Nest took the field to face Fluminense in the first leg of the Copa Rio semifinal. Four minutes into the match, Luis Fernando opened the scoring for the opponent. Mengão began creating several scoring chances and equalized in the 24th minute with a beautiful shot from outside the box by midfielder Daniel.

The Mais Querido (Flamengo's Favorite) came back pressing hard in the second half, but Fluminense scored again in the eighth minute, with a Gustavo Cintra header following a corner kick in the box. Undeterred, Flamengo equalized again with Adriel in the 12th minute, his first touch after coming off the bench. But just as Mengão was enjoying its best moment in the derby, Luis Fernando scored again in the 20th minute, sealing Fluminense's 3-2 victory. The negative result forces the Garotos do Ninho (Ninho Boys) to beat their opponents by at least two goals in next Saturday's match at 10 a.m. in Laranjeiras to secure a spot in the final.
