U-20 eliminates Corinthians once again and is in the final of the Brazilian Championship

Just like the U-17s did when they were crowned national champions, the U-20s will go through Corinthians and face Palmeiras in the grand final.

Everything was business as usual in Cariacica. In a tight and tense match, Flamengo's youth academy once again defeated Corinthians in a tough phase of national competition (in September, the U-17 team defeated the São Paulo team in the Brazilian Championship final) and secured a spot in another final, this time the Brasileirão U-20. After beating the São Paulo team 2-1 away last week at Parque São Jorge, the Garotos do Ninho drew 0-0 in the second leg at Kleber Andrade Stadium in Cariacica and will face Palmeiras for the title, a first for the "Mais Querido" (Most Beloved).

The game was decisive, tense, and started very evenly, with few scoring chances for either side. Corinthians threatened in the 17th minute with a cross-shot from Gabriel Pereira. Flamengo responded in the 27th minute with a powerful shot from Wendel that went over goalkeeper Guilherme's goal. In the 33rd minute, the "Garotos do Ninho" (The Boys from the Nest) pressed Corinthians' attack and stole the ball. Guilherme Bala took a shot from outside the box, but Guilherme made a good save, palming it out for a corner.

As Flamengo was getting its act together, the ball hit Ramon's hand inside the box, and the referee awarded a penalty. But Flamengo had Hugo Souza. Nathan fired a powerful shot into the right corner, and the Flamengo defender flew beautifully to make a great save, keeping the score tied and Mengão's lead in the match. In the final play before halftime, Flamengo had its best chance of the game so far. Vitor Gabriel made a great individual play and crossed for Guilherme Bala, who beat the defense in the challenge and shot toward goal. The defense, however, cleared it on the line, preventing the Mais Querido's first goal in the decisive derby.

The Boys of the Nest returned more attacking in the second half. Just five minutes in, Luis Gustavo sped to the byline and delivered a superb cross into the box. The defense cleared the ball before it reached Vitor Gabriel's head. Luiz Henrique fired a first-time shot on the rebound, but the defense cleared it again. In the eighth minute, the defense failed, and Vitor Gabriel was alert in the box. The shot was headed toward goal, but Guilherme made a great save to prevent the red-and-blacks' first goal of the game.

Flamengo dominated the game, nearly taking the lead in the 12th minute with Vitor Gabriel and in the 13th with Luis Gustavo, in a well-rehearsed play by coach Mauricio Souza following a corner kick. In the 15th minute, Guilherme Bala was brought down in the box. A penalty for Flamengo. Vitor Gabriel struck hard, but goalkeeper Guilherme made the save. In the 37th minute, Madson unleashed a powerful shot, and once again, Hugo Souza flew in and made an excellent save, palming the ball out for a corner, securing Mengão's place in another final in the 2019 season.

Flamengo: Hugo Souza, Luis Gustavo (Otavio), Gustavo, Natan, Ramon; Matheus Alves, Luiz Henrique, Yuri de Oliveira (Richard Rios); Guilherme Bala (Rodrigo Muniz), Wendel and Vitor Gabriel. Coach: Mauricio Souza.
