U-20 draws with Cruzeiro under heavy rain in Gávea
The Ninho boys put on a lot of pressure in the second half, but the score remains 1-1. Their next opponent will be Corinthians.
By Ian Sena - inIn a match played under heavy rain on Wednesday afternoon (28), in Gávea, and valid for the eighth round of the Brazilian Championship, Mengão's U-20, led by Fábio Matias, drew 1-1 (Ramon) with Cruzeiro. The result keeps the Garotos do Ninho within the G8 of the competition, in seventh place. The first eight qualify for the knockout stage. In the next round, Mais Querido receives Corinthians, again in Gávea. The duel is scheduled for Sunday (01/08), at 9:30 am.
The first half was a struggle with few scoring opportunities. Cruzeiro opened the scoring in the tenth minute, with a goal from Ageu. Under heavy rain, Pedro Arthur nearly equalized in the 29th minute with a beautiful shot from the edge of the box. And that was the best thing of the first half.
Flamengo equalized just four minutes into the second half, when Lázaro delivered a beautiful pass to Ramon, who struck a low shot that surprised goalkeeper Denivys. After that, Flamengo pressed hard and created good opportunities to turn the game around. The best came in the 31st minute, when Lázaro received the ball in the box and fired a first-time shot over the Cruzeiro goal, and in the 39th, when Lázaro once again headed wide.
