In the 9th round of the Guanabara U-20 Cup, Flamengo drew 0-0 with Vasco, in the classic played on Thursday morning (22), at Nivaldo Pereira Stadium. With the result, Rubro-Negro remained in the isolated leadership of the competition with 22 points. It is worth mentioning that the Garotos do Ninho are already qualified in advance for the quarterfinals of Carioca.
The game
The match started evenly, with both teams studying each other closely. With the majority of possession, the "Garotos do Ninho" (Nest Boys) exchanged passes in the attacking midfield, seeking to find space in the Vasco defense. Vasco, in turn, struggled to get the ball out of play due to the high marking adopted by the red-and-black team.
In the 22nd minute, Lázaro took a shot from outside the box, but the goalkeeper made the save. In the final minutes, Flamengo pressed their opponents and narrowly missed opening the scoring in the first half.
Early in the second half, Thiaguinho made a good run down the right, took the ball to the byline, and crossed low to Ryan Luka, who shot on goal, but the goalkeeper made a good save. Seven minutes in, goalkeeper Matheus Cunha shone and made a great save after coming face-to-face with Cruzmaltino striker Marlon Gomes.
In the 27th minute, Vasco made a poor play, and the ball fell to Lázaro, who struck hard into the middle of the goal, but the goalkeeper made a save. In the final stretch of the derby, the game opened up, with both teams pushing forward in search of the winning goal. Despite chances created by both sides, the match ended in a goalless draw.
If they win their last two games, against Volta Redonda and Madureira, Mengão will win the Taça Guanabara title.
