U-20 debuts with a draw in the Brazilian Championship
Flamengo and Vitória draw 1-1 with two penalty kicks

On Thursday night (04.06), Flamengo made its debut in the Brazilian Under-20 Championship. The juniors started with a 1-1 draw in the match against Vitória, at the Giulite Coutinho stadium, in Mesquita, Rio de Janeiro. Rubro-Negro needs to finish among the top two in Group B to advance to the second phase.
Vitória opened the scoring with a penalty kick in the 24th minute of the first half. Just ten minutes later, in the first half, another penalty was awarded, this time to Flamengo. The club's top scorer of the youth season, Douglas Baggio, stepped up to take the penalty, showed composure and class, and knocked the goalkeeper out of the picture for the equalizer.
The team relies on the quality of its squad to compete simultaneously in the Taça Rio and the Brasileiro. In the national championship, the Taça Guanabara champions represent the Rubro-Negro. In the second round of the Carioca, Zé Ricardo will field a different group, but one that is still fighting for the lead. The battle continues this Sunday (June 07.06), at 11:30 am, at the Cidadania Stadium, against Volta Redonda, in the ninth round of the Taça Rio. For the Brasileiro, the boys return to the field on Wednesday (June 10.06), at 15 pm, against Coritiba, at the Janguitão Stadium, in Paraná.
