U-20 debuts in the second phase of the Brazilian Championship with a victory over Fluminense
Even playing away from home, Garotos do Ninho win 3-2 and start at the top of Group F
By Ian Sena - inIn a classic match played on Wednesday afternoon (08) at Los Larios Stadium, in Xerém, Flamengo and Fluminense faced each other in a match valid for the first round of the second phase of the Brazilian Under-20 Championship. After finishing the previous phase as leaders of Group D with three wins in four games, the Garotos do Ninho debuted in the second phase of the national competition, also in groups, beating Fluminense away from home by a score of 3x2 (Klebinho, Wendel and Reinier), a result that gives the red-black team the momentary leadership of Group F. Coritiba and Vasco face each other this Thursday afternoon, at Couto Pereira. In the next round, Mais Querido hosts Coritiba, on the 15th, at 15 pm, in Gávea, with live broadcast on Globoesporte.com and SporTV.com.

The Boys from the Nest dominated from the start and soon opened the scoring. Just four minutes into the match, Wendel delivered a superb pass to Klebinho. The right-back calmly controlled the ball and fired a cross into the corner, leaving goalkeeper Pedro Paulo with no chance. In the 25th minute, Bill and Michael played a beautiful one-two on the left wing of the red-and-black attack. The full-back sent in a low cross, but Vitor Gabriel arrived a second too late and narrowly missed tapping in for another.
Flamengo was superior and looked to extend their lead. In the 33rd minute, Reinier passed to Wendel, whose shot was blocked by the defense. Reinier then faced his defenders again and crossed to Vitor Gabriel, who arrived just in time with a sliding tackle, but his shot was blocked by the defender.
The start of the second half mirrored the first: dominance on the field and a goal for the "Mais Querido" (The Most Beloved) in the fourth minute. Vitor Gabriel capitalized on a misplaced pass from the Tricolor defense and led a counterattack. He was brought down by the defense but managed to pass to Bill. Vinicius Souza then passed the ball with his outside of the foot to Wendel. Flying up the field, he easily beat the defense and slotted a low shot to extend the lead for the "Garotos do Ninho" (The Boys of the Nest).
Fluminense pulled one back with a header from Caio in the 26th minute. Fluminense tried to apply pressure, but Flamengo scored the third. In the 37th minute, Yuri found Reinier inside the box. Playing center forward with great skill, the number 10 beat his marker in a one-on-one fight and struck a first-time shot into the back of the net, scoring his first goal in the U-20 category and giving the Garotos do Ninho peace of mind in the derby. However, in the 42nd minute, Leandro pulled one back again in a strong attack by the Laranjeiras team. Flamengo held off their opponents in the final minutes and secured their first three points in Group F of the Brazilian U-20 Championship.
