Flamengo's under-20 team took to the field this Saturday (14.09), in Gávea, for the third round of the Otávio Pinto Guimarães Tournament (OPG) and drew with Duque de Caxias 1-1. Mais Querido, which has not yet lost in the competition, shares the lead in group B with Serra Macaense, both with five points.
In the first half, Rubro-Negro opened the scoring with Renato Maceió, following a good pass from Diego Fabian. After the goal, the team created other scoring chances but failed to convert them. Striker Douglas Baggio even missed a penalty kick. Still in the first half, Duque de Caxias equalized.
Many of the scoring chances created fell to Diego Fabian, who provided the assist for the red-and-black goal. The Paraguayan, who wore the number 10 jersey, started the game and performed well.
"We put the players who haven't played much on the field, and it was good for them to get some experience. It's important to keep everyone in the group at a high level of competitiveness," explained coach Cleber dos Santos.
The players who have been starting in the Copa do Brasil campaign trained in Gávea on Saturday morning, before the match against Duque de Caxias, and did not attend the game. The squad has Sunday (15.09) off and will return this Monday (16.09), at CT George Helal.
