U-20 loses to Fluminense in Gávea

On Wednesday afternoon (19.08), Flamengo took to the field at the José Bastos Padilha stadium, in Gávea, to fight for a place in the final of the Brazilian Under-20 Championship. In the classic against Fluminense, the Tricolor came out on top. The opponent opened the scoring with a penalty kick in the first half, and, with an extra man on the field, extended the lead in the last minute.

Last Sunday (16.08), the team led by Zé Ricardo was crowned Carioca champion, after winning the first and second rounds of the state championship against Botafogo. The boys' next commitment will be the Otávio Pinto Guimarães Tournament (OPG), which begins on August 29. The U-20 Brazil Cup begins on September 23.
The game
In the 11th minute, Vizeu had the first significant chance with a low shot. In the 19th minute, Fluminense were awarded a penalty and converted, opening the scoring. For the second half, Paquetá came on for Trindade. In the 15th minute, Flamengo made a good move down the right, and Thiago Ennes fired a beautiful shot from outside the box, but the ball sailed over the crossbar. Fifteen minutes later, Flamengo's Marquinhos was sent off, making Flamengo's mission even more difficult, but the youngsters fought hard. Coach Zé Ricardo completed the available substitutions by bringing on Rafael Santos and Alan for Ronaldo and Matheus Sávio. In the last minute, with an extra man on the field, Fluminense found another goal and sealed the victory.
