U-20 loses to Santos in the Brazilian Championship
Ninho Boys lose 2-0 in Volta Redonda, but remain in the competition
By Ian Sena - inIn a match played on a cold Thursday night (12) at Raulino de Oliveira Stadium in Volta Redonda, Flamengo's U-20 team played a game with few scoring chances and was defeated 2-0 by Santos. The result of the duel, valid for the second round of the Brazilian Championship in the category, takes the Garotos do Ninho out of the classification zone for the next phase, but keeps the Rubro-Negro alive in the competition. After having a rest in the next round, Mais Querido travels to face Figueirense, group leader, in Florianópolis, on the 25th. Then, on August 1st, they host Internacional again in Volta Redonda, concluding their participation in the first phase of the national competition. The top two from each group will form two new groups in the next stage of the Brasileirão U-20.
The game
In the fifth minute, Hugo Moura took a shot from outside the box that went over the goal. In the 13th minute, Yuri reached the bottom of the box at speed and crossed into the box. The ball fell to Klebinho, who passed it to Vinicius Souza. The shot was powerful from the edge of the box but went over the bar. Flamengo was superior on the field but couldn't create many scoring chances. In the 30th minute, Michael hit a free kick that went wide. The Flamengo fans, who had turned out in good numbers (around 1800 people in attendance), roared for a goal. Santos' only chance in the first half came in the 40th minute. Anderson headed the ball from inside the six-yard box, and Hugo Souza made a great save, saving the Flamengo.
The Boys from the Nest came out on top in the second half. In the seventh minute, Bill made a great individual play and passed the ball to Pepê. He shot it into the net, and João made a great save. In the tenth minute, Klebinho took a corner kick, Dantas beat the goalkeeper to it, and headed it in. The ball hit the crossbar. The Mais Querido pressed for the first goal, but in the 22nd minute, the São Paulo team opened the scoring through Wagner, following an aerial ball into the box.
Flamengo remained undeterred and went in search of the equalizer. In the 28th minute, Reinier crossed, and the defense anticipated Vitor Gabriel, who appeared well-positioned and cut the ball out for a corner. In the 32nd minute, Reinier shook off two defenders, but his shot was weak and threatening no danger to the Santos goal. In the 37th minute, in a quick counterattack, Emerson carried the ball and crossed to Anderson, who scored the second goal for the São Paulo team, sealing the victory of the national derby.
