Guanabara Cup champions, Garotos do Ninho already have a guaranteed spot in the State final
By Ian Sena - inIn the first leg of the U-20 Rio Cup final, Flamengo was defeated 2-0 by Vasco, in Gávea, on the afternoon of this Wednesday (25). Champions of the Guanabara Cup, beating Vasco itself in São Januário, the Garotos do Ninho already have a guaranteed place in the general final of the State. If they are also champions of the Rio Cup, they will be two-time state champions directly, without the need to dispute the general final. The return game is scheduled for October 06, in São Januário.
Vasco created more chances before halftime and opened the scoring in the 38th minute of the first half with Gabriel PEC. In the 42nd minute, Wendel took a shot from outside the box, but goalkeeper Halls made the save without allowing a rebound.
Flamengo returned for the second half looking for a comeback. Just four minutes in, Yuri hit a cross from outside the box, but Halls made a good save, but the ball went wide. In the seventh minute, Wendel hit a powerful shot, and Hall made another save. In the ninth minute, Yuri fired a conscious shot from outside the box, and the ball went millimeters wide of Vasco's top corner.
The red-and-black pressure was intense, but in an isolated play in the 19th minute, Vasco scored the second through Figueiredo. Shortly after, Ítalo received a second yellow card and was sent off. Vasco fought until the end but couldn't reduce the deficit.
