Building on a generation that won the U-17 state championship without losing a single game, Flamengo advanced to another stage in the São Paulo Junior Cup. The red-and-blacks defeated São Paulo this Tuesday (January 18.01th) by a score of 1-0, receiving a standing ovation from the fans at the stadium in Limeira and also receiving high praise from coach Paulo Henrique. Happy with the team's performance on the field against a team considered the favorite, the red-and-black manager believes that Flamengo proved it can go far in the competition.
For Paulo, as important as praising the boys is thanking the fans for their support, whether they came to the stadium or even watched from home. Furthermore, the players from the professional team, who have been mobilizing to watch the games, were also remembered.
"I thank all the fans and congratulate our athletes, who deserved it, ran the whole time and came away with the victory. We knew how to play and achieved this victory that takes us to the next stage. I also wanted to send a hug to the professional players. They deserve this dedication and this desire," said the manager, remembering that the homogeneous squad is Flamengo's main weapon.
"We have a very good squad, our bench is qualified, so the team maintains its standard even with the changes. This group of young players has a bright future and deserves congratulations for their determination," he noted.
Despite all the celebration, Paulo Henrique urges no one to be fooled by the results of Flamengo's undefeated campaign thus far. The coach believes it's important to remain calm and continue working to achieve more positive results in the Copinha, which Flamengo has won only once in its history, in 1990.
"Now it's time to move on. We haven't won anything, we're not going to let the victory go to our heads and we're going to try to go further. We eliminated the U-20 champion and now the São Paulo Cup champion, but we still have a long way to go until the end. We have another final against Coritiba, so we can't let this go to our heads. We have to keep working," he concluded.
