By Communication - Official Club Website - inOn Friday morning (January 31.01), Flamengo's children's soccer team won the Copa Guri title in their category. The boys defeated Solvive, from Espírito Santo, 2-0. Captain Athirson, named after the former professional player and playing the same position as his namesake, scored both goals in the match. The "Mais Querido" had a brilliant campaign: they won undefeated, had the competition's top scorer, Vinicius, and the goalkeeper with the fewest goals conceded, Vitor.
Falcão, technical coordinator of the Junior and Pre-Junior teams, praised the boys, whom he considers a generation of champions, with great potential for the future in the sport.
"This 2000 group that represented Flamengo in the Copa Guri is a promising crop, a very successful group. In 2013, these boys were champions in the Mirim category, the category they competed in at the time. Since July 2011, the boys have played 52 matches, won 49, and drawn three. They haven't known what it's like to lose in years. During that time, they competed in seven competitions, won six, and lost only one, on penalties. Vinicius was the top scorer in all of them, and we always won undefeated," he said.
The boys' coach, Carlos Eduardo Patetuci, known as Dudu, also sees great promise in the team for the future at Flamengo. "This was my first trip with this 2000 group, and it was very positive, very good. These kids have a lot of potential. Three players really stood out in attack. Athirson, Vinicius, and Iuri together scored 15 of the 25 goals we scored in the championship. In the four years I've been at Flamengo, this group is special to me. They truly have a unique offensive prowess. The club can expect good things from now on," the coach assured.
