OPG Tournament: Good debut to boost morale
Flamengo kicks off its campaign with a victory over Madureira; the result is crucial for the team to reach the first game of the Copa do Brasil in good shape.

Flamengo's U-20 team took the first step toward their third consecutive Otávio Pinto Guimarães Tournament title. This afternoon (August 31.08st), at Gávea Stadium, the "Mais Querido" defeated Madureira 2-0 in their competition debut. Mattheus and Thiago scored the goals.
"I thank God for the opportunity to score. I was fortunate to finish, and the whole group deserves congratulations on the victory. Now it's time to focus on Portuguesa (in the Copa do Brasil) and hope to score another goal against them," said Mattheus after the final whistle. Captain Fernando is also already thinking about the national competition. "The mission is to change focus and start thinking about Tuesday's game, as it will be a very difficult knockout match as well," he said.
As the boys said, the team's next challenge is the Copa do Brasil. Next Tuesday (03.09), at 19 pm, at Canindé Stadium, in São Paulo, Flamengo will face Portuguesa in the first phase of the competition.
As for the Otávio Pinto Guimarães Tournament, the Mais Querido's next game will be on September 7th. At the Municipal do Frade Stadium in Macaé, Flamengo will play Serra Macaense. The two clubs are in Group B, alongside Madureira, Duque de Caxias, and Mesquita.
