A dozen goals

With less than five minutes of play, Flamengo's under-20s were shocked to see Mesquita open the scoring, on Wednesday afternoon (23.10), in Gávea. But, after that goal, the Mais Querido largely dominated the match, turned the score around and finished the match with a 10-1 victory. The result guaranteed the Rubro-Negro, leader of group B, in the second phase of the Otávio Pinto Guimarães Tournament (OPG).

"We made the game calm, because there is no such thing as an easy game. As the match progressed, we grew, got into the swing of things and the goals came naturally," said midfielder Mattheus, who found the net twice. Renan Donizete (2), Eduardo (2), Recife (2) and Thiago (2) completed the rout.

In the second phase of the OPG Tournament, which begins next Saturday (October 26.10), the eight finalists will be divided into two groups, with four members in each. Flamengo is now waiting for the Rio de Janeiro State Football Federation to announce the composition of both groups.

"These first-round matches were crucial for our progress toward the second round. They were tight games, and in some of them we had to come from behind to win. It's a tough tournament, but if we play our best, it's unlikely they'll beat Flamengo at Gávea," said Mattheus.
