With the watchful eye of the new executive director of football, Zico, Flamengo's youth team lived up to expectations and beat Resende 2-1 at CFZ on Wednesday afternoon (16.06). With goals from Maycon Douglas and Dudu, the Rubro-Negro earned three more points, totaling 22, guaranteed second place in the table and stayed close to Vasco, who beat Boavista, also 2-1, and remains in first place with 27.
Despite the intense battle for possession in midfield, which left the game very tight, Flamengo managed to prevail. The team from Gávea had no trouble opening the scoring in the 25th minute with Maycon. And still in the first half, in stoppage time, top scorer Dudu scored the second, giving coach Paulo Henrique's team a solid 2-0 lead before heading into the locker room, a score the red-and-blacks only held on to until the final whistle, when Resende finally pulled one back.
A product of the club's youth academy, Zico believes in the motto "Ace, Flamengo does it at home" and intends to live up to it in the future. O Galinho analyzed the club's performance, which, according to him, fell slightly short of expectations, and promised to pay close attention to the youth academy so that it can soon become a hotbed of talent again.
"It's too early to make an analysis, but the team needs to produce more, play more. It wasn't a great performance, but the important thing was the three points. We need to restructure the youth academy. I'm going to meet with Carlos Novaes, the youth academy director, to discuss some solutions. The goal is to develop athletes so that the youth academy can provide well-prepared players for the professional team," stated Zico.
It's worth noting that coach Paulo Henrique's team entered the field without key players such as Galhardo, Lenon, Saba, Camacho, and Diego Maurício, who are now part of the first team. Flamengo's starting lineup included Marcelo Carné, Alex, China, Henrique, and Jorbison; Maycon Douglas, João Vitor, Guilherme, and Dieguinho; and Vinícius Paquetá and Dudu.
