Monday (August 26.08) marked the Flamengo U-20 team's reunion with Ninho do Urubu. In the morning, the boys played a training match against the professional team's reserves. From August 13th to 24th, the kids were in Minas Gerais for the Taça BH, from which they were eliminated despite suffering only one loss. Now is the time to lift their heads and think about the next two competitions.
"Today, the conversation was about looking for a rehabilitation for the year. The goals now are to win the Otávio Pinto Guimarães Tournament (OPG) for the third time and to reach the top four in the Copa do Brasil," said Cleber dos Santos, coach of the red-black team.
The closest challenge is the first round of the Otávio Pinto Guimarães Tournament. Next Saturday (August 31.08st), at 15 pm, Flamengo will host Madureira, in a match valid for group B.
"We played a friendly against Madureira in the preseason and saw that they are a strong and competitive team. In the semifinal of the last Rio Cup, we beat them 2-1, but playing against them requires a lot of attention," said the coach.
The following Tuesday (03.09), the Rubro-Negro will make its debut in the Copa do Brasil. Cleber dos Santos' team will play against Portuguesa, at Canindé Stadium, in São Paulo, at 19:30 pm. As they will be the visiting team, Flamengo will be eliminated from the second leg if they win by two or more goals.
"We're going to play a solid game without thinking about eliminating the second leg. We'll look for the win first. If it comes by a two-goal margin, that would be great. If it doesn't come, we still have a game in Rio de Janeiro," said the coach of the Mais Querido.
If they get past Portuguesa, Flamengo will face either Vitoria or Remo. In 2012, when the U-20 Copa do Brasil was held for the first time, Flamengo was eliminated in the round of XNUMX.
