Zico will watch the juniors' games in Barueri
Flamengo's executive director of football highlights the importance of youth teams for the club

Raised in Flamengo's youth academy, Zico understands the importance of hard work early in one's career. He also understands that a whole structure is needed to support a young athlete to ensure they perform at their best on the field, not only at the youth academy but also when promoted to the professional level. Therefore, since taking over as executive director of football, he has been paying special attention to the youth academy.
Proof of this is that Galinho has already followed the final stretch of the Junior State Championship and is now going to Barueri to watch some of the matches that under-20 team will compete in an international tournament. The Eurofarama Super Cup begins next Monday (26.07), when Flamengo plays against Peñarol-URU. On Tuesday (27.07), the team faces Porto-POR, and completes its campaign in the first phase on Thursday (29.07), against Palmeiras.
"They are the future of Flamengo. A competition like this, international, with an age limit, is important. These boys will be Flamengo's juniors in the coming years and there's nothing like a tournament like this to better analyze these kids," explained Zico.
Coach Paulo Henrique's starting lineup for the competition consists of Cesar, Galhardo, China, Marlon, and Jorbison; Maycon, João Vitor, Guilherme, and Eliabe; and Carlyle and Dudu. Luiz Antônio and Christianno, called up to the Brazilian national team for the category, will be missing from the squad.
"These are players who haven't been seen yet. Only Galhardo and Jorbison have been with us. The others are young, and we intend to keep a close eye on them to see what we can use immediately and in the future," the executive director added.
Flamengo is in Group A of the competition, along with Porto, Palmeiras, and Peñarol. Group B features Sevilla, Santos, Corinthians, and Boca Juniors. The games will be held at Arena Barueri, which underwent renovations to expand the stands and now has a capacity of 33. The winner of Group A will face the runner-up in Group B, and the winner of Group B will face the runner-up in Group A. The two finalists will be determined based on the results. The grand final will be played on August 1st.
