Celso Silva takes over command of Flamengo/Marinha
Assistant, who was already part of the technical committee, will continue the work in 2020
By Communication - Flamengo - inChange at Flamengo/Marinha for the season! Celso Silva, an assistant coach for the past few years, replaces Ricardo Abrantes, who moved to the Navy's management department and became the strategic coordinator for all high-performance sports. The now-former coach led the team to its fifth State Championship (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019) and the Women's Brasileirão (2016).
Celso has also been on the committee since the beginning of the partnership and has lifted all these trophies. Upon his return, the team will compete in the national competition, which will reopen on August 26th against Internacional, away from home, and the Carioca. Happy with the opportunity, he mentioned the goal of keeping the Mais Querido in the hunt for the top, made a point of leaving a message for his friend and predecessor, Ricardo, and addressed his expectations.
"Taking charge of a team as grand as Flamengo is extremely rewarding. We know the weight and importance of this Mantle, as well as all the history it carries. I thank you for your trust in allowing me to continue leading the team from now on. I will certainly continue to strive to elevate the club to ever greater heights. A special mention is also due to Ricardo Abrantes, whom I served as assistant coach for the past few seasons and whom I now replace with great honor. He leaves a victorious legacy, which further increases my responsibility in this new challenge in my career. Flamengo always enters any competition aiming for the top. And so, our expectations for this new beginning are no different. We will continue working hard in pursuit of success," he stated.
The squad hasn't changed much, nor has the rest of the staff. So far, the 2020 record shows two wins (Ponte Preta and Minas Icesp) and two losses (Santos and São Paulo).
