The red-black women's football team already has a new coach for the rest of the season: Celso Silva signed a contract, was at CFZ this Friday (17), had his first contact with the squad and will watch tomorrow's game against Real Heips, at 10 am, in Gávea. The coach's second stint at the club officially begins next Monday (20).
Celso arrived as an assistant in 2015 and remained in the position until early 2020. During that time, he won five Rio de Janeiro state championships and the Brazilian championship. During the pandemic, he took over the team permanently and remained until the end of 2021, when he won the state championship again.
In 2022, after an internal restructuring, he became the U-20 coach, performing excellently. Leading the team, he reached the semifinals of the Brazilian Championship in that category and, in 2023, led Flamengo to the undefeated title of the first edition of the Copinha. A key player in the development process, he was part of the journey of athletes who are now playing professionally, such as defender Núbia, full-backs Ana Laura and Diovanna, defensive midfielder Letícia, midfielder Mariana—who scored one of the goals in the Copinha final—and forwards Duda Rodrigues and Laysa.
Back after two seasons at São Paulo, the coach is very motivated by the challenge.
"This return to Flamengo makes me extremely excited, grateful, and honored. Being able to represent this institution again is a source of great pride. I've lived here for many years, experienced various periods, and experienced moments that have remained in my life to this day, such as the Brazilian title in 2016 and winning the Copinha. I understand that it's a challenging mission given the club's greatness, but it's what every professional desires. So, I thank the board for their trust and hope to live up to their expectations through hard work, sweat, and dedication. We'll build on what we've already built this season and plan for the next, always focusing on making Flamengo better," he commented.
"The fact that I know the club and several of the girls who are currently on the squad makes things much easier, but having athletes like Cristiane, Fabi, Djeni, and Ju Ferreira—who also worked with me—in this new phase of the project is crucial. Combining a solid foundation with the more experienced players will be one of the pillars of our work," she concluded.
