Flamengo's U-20 (formerly U-18) women's soccer team begins the year with a change in leadership. Celso Silva, who was the club's assistant coach until 2015 and managed the team for the last two seasons, is the new coach of the club's youth academy. Sergio Carnevale, who led the team in the final stretch of 2020, remains on the team's coaching staff but returns to his previous role. 

A six-time state champion, Celso has been present at every recent event for Mais Querido and is approaching this challenge fully aware of the responsibility. Motivated by the opportunity, the coach made a point of thanking the board and stated that the goal is to lift trophies as quickly as possible.

"My move to the U-20s had been discussed since last year, largely due to the CBF's reorganization of everything, so it was a natural move for the club. Flamengo is aggressive, getting stronger every day, and desperately wants to win titles in the coming seasons. I feel happy and honored to have been chosen by the board to fulfill this mission. I will dedicate myself fully and can't wait to debut in the category. Our main goal is to be Brazilian champion," he said.

In the published calendar, the Brasileirão, scheduled for May, will be the Meninas da Gávea's first official commitment in 2022.

"The club is expanding its youth academy structure and investing in coaching staff. Celso has extensive knowledge of women's soccer, years of experience in national championships, and has coached the professional team for the past two years. He is now responsible for development. We are confident in his work," said André Rocha, coordinator of the club.
