With a great record in Gávea, Flamengo/Marinha welcomes Corinthians in the Brasileirão
Rubro-negros seek advantage in the first match of the national championship semifinal
By Mariana Sa - inLots of focus, love and drive. This is how Flamengo/Marinha will enter the field this Wednesday (26), at 15 pm, at the Gávea stadium. In a match valid for the first leg of the semifinal of the Brazilian Women's Football Championship A-1, the red-blacks receive Corinthians and battle for a place in another final.
The Meninas da Gávea finished the first stage of the Brasileirão with 27 points from 14 games, including eight wins, three draws, and three losses. In the quarterfinals, Flamengo lost to Kindermann 1-0 in Caçador, but won 4-0 at home and advanced. Flamengo scored 37 goals and conceded 18. The red-and-blacks are unbeaten in Rio de Janeiro. In eight home matches, they have won seven and drawn one.
Dispute system
In the first stage of the competition, the teams face each other in a home-and-away format. Then, the top four clubs from each of the two groups advance to the quarterfinals, semifinals, and final. All matches will be played in home-and-away format. The Brazilian champion also secures a spot in the 2019 Copa Libertadores.
the opponent
Corinthians arrives at the semifinals as the last undefeated team in the competition. In 16 matches played so far, they have won 12 and drawn four. The team also boasts strong attacking and defensive performances. In the last round, the São Paulo team defeated Ponte Preta in both matches, securing their spot.
In the Campeonato Paulista, they have 18 wins and two draws in 20 matches, with 65 goals scored and 13 conceded. Corinthians will face Santos in the state championship final.
Retrospect
This will be the third meeting between the teams in Brasileirão history. The previous two matches took place in the second phase of the tournament in 2016. In the first round, Corinthians won 2-0 at José Liberatti Stadium. At Gávea Stadium, Corinthians won 3-2. Larissa (twice) and Bárbara scored the goals.
